Awaiting The Apocalypse "At War With The Dead" - Album Review

Written by Cole Baity:

Before I start this review, I would like to say before I knew this wasn't I signed band, I thought they sound like a huge signed band, which surprised me. Awesome band in my opinion, so let's get to it...

1. A-TAP
This track is definitely a good start to the album. My absolute favorite part of this song is that they manage to keep it heavy, but also stay away from the typical metal bands that stick to the lowest frets on the guitar/bass. The chords sounded good throughout the song and still kept a heavy sound, good job. The vocals are excellent. They bring great intesity and the highs and lows come together to make an original and fantastic sound. In my opinion, the vocals are a good example for other bands. The only problem I have with this song is the transition at 00:46. I would suggest to stretch that transition out a tad bit longer so that the tempo change isn't so abrupt. Overall, great song.

2. Falling Down (D.M.F.)
This is one of the best songs I have heard in quite some time. You can tell when bands just try to make everything sound cool and when they know what they're doing musicially and these guys know what they're doing. I love the intensity and back-bone that this track brings. Every single piece of this band pulled together quite nicely and prodcued, in my opinion, a master piece with only one small flaw. Again, the tempo change was a little abrupt at 2:50ish, but not a real noticeable thing, easily fixable.

3. J-Town Kool-Aid
Again, great intensity coming from this track. Stayed away using just lower fret "chugging" the entire song which is fantastic. The vocals and the drums stood out the most to me in this one. The vocals in this are very powerful and is definitely a great addition to this band. The drums really brought a little extra to the table and showed that they aren't just for the rhythmn. All-in-all, great song.

4. They Rise You can tell that plenty of work went into making this song. Truly a good song. This track used a good mixture of slams and breakdowns which is a great thing to know how to balance. Everything about this song was amazing to me. Everything stood out and showed that they know what they're doing and that they are GOING to make it big in the music scene. Yet again, another great song.

5. I Will Beat You To Death To Prove My Love To You
This track is very catchy. I love the overall tempo and feel to this song. One of my album favorites for sure. The guitars really came together well and really did an awesome job at setting a great tone for the lyrics of the song. The vocals also again really stood out to me. Thw low vocals really hit home in this one and brought more fierce intensity. Nice work. I heard no flaws whatsoever in the song. Everything flowed well and it is an awesome addition to the album. Nice work.

6. Therapist This track brings out a good vibe straight from the beginning. This band still manages to be creative, original, and non-repetitive this late in the track and I one hundred percent applaud these guys for that. Everything came together really well and created a good melody and still kept to the genre. Also, the guitars stood out more in this. They really showed more of their skill and I thoroughly enjoyed this track.

7. The Battle At Yonkers
Again, strong intensity and every piece of the band wrote this track masterfully. They keep a good tempo throughout and when it does change, it's fairly smooth and sounds good to the ear. Definitely a song to be sent in to be checked at by record labels. Again, great work guys.

8. Below The Influence
This song still brought intensity but just doesn't stand out to me as much as the other tracks. It lacks a certain "oompf" if you will that all the other songs do. Still a good track to listen to and definitely one to keep on the album. Again, the guitars worked well together and worked well with every other aspect of the band. Keep up the good work.

9. The Battle Of Hope
I really "dig" this song. To me, it has a more relaxed feel and tone to it and I think it compliments the album well to have a song like this. I thoroughly enjoyed the open guitar riffs which made up the entire mood for the rest of the track. Good melody, yet still have the ability to stay to genre and that's a great quality in a band.

All-in-all fantastic album and definitely worth the listen. Stay tuned for theses guys because they WILL get big. Promise.
